Not sure if you can due to the fact you currently have no income and are not current on the loan. I have marginal credit and had an interest rate of almost 20% I refinanced once not sure what I used but dropped it to 15.9% then 6 months later refinanced again this time using lendingtree.com and refinanced at 10.29% which seemed more reasonable. I cut almost 6 months off the term of loan and lowered my payments by about $30.00. So I am a big fan of lending tree as they gave me at least 4 offers. Some of the offers were kind of ridiculous but one was very favorable and I got it thru Wachovia which is/was (before the bank collapse) a decent name in banks. Sorry I’m not a big help as I am not sure about the job loss or the recent missed payments. Don’t return the car because unless things have changed in the last couple years it’ll be the same as a repo so in that case keep it until they come and get it and you’ll have a car until that date. You most likely will owe a repo fee but it shouldn’t be any more than a car payment so use it wisely to help find a new job and hopefully get back on track. Spring is coming and hopefully so will the jobs. One last thing contact your current financier and see if there might be any way to work out a deal where you can skip a payment or three I know my bank offers this for a $30.00 a month fee for 3 months (usually in the summer time) Not sure if this will pertain to you as you are currently behind. Good luck
